Steps for removing a virus from your machine
   (Source: help.ag.ohio-state.edu)
1.  Turn off the computer
2.  Unplug the machine from the network
3.  From another computer, download Stinger to a floppy disk
4.  Turn on the infected computer, booting the machine in SAFE MODE
   ( as the machine starts to come on, repeatedly press F8 until you get a menu and choose Safe Mode )
5.  If you are running Windows XP, turn off System Restore
6.  Launch the Stinger program that you download on the floppy disk
7.  Add all hard drives that are in your machine
8.  Run the Scan
9.  After Stinger is complete, restart machine in normal mode and get anti-virus software update from a clean machine
10.  After anti-virus software is updated, run a complete scan with the software.
11.  After you are sure all viruses are removed, turn System Restore back on
12.  Plug the computer back into the network

 * Some viruses require a tool to remove the virus, you can download some FIX tools from the Symantec site
